AmeriCorps NCCC is a full-time service program that provides lodging and travel expenses, allowing young adults, ages 18-26, to serve on a team and make an impact in communities across the country. As they serve communities, these AmeriCorps NCCC members also gain valuable life and career skills, including leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving.
AmeriCorps NCCC Programs
AmeriCorps NCCC offers four unique paths to service: Traditional Corps, FEMA Corps, Forest Corps, and Summer of Service. Each service path includes a Corps Member position (for 18-26* year-olds) and a Team Leader position (for individuals 18+, no upper age limit, who possess leadership experience).
- FEMA Corps teams serve nationally under FEMA and provide an opportunity to get a foot in the door for federal employment. FEMA Corps projects vary, but all members are trained in one or more of FEMA's mission-critical functions: disaster survivor assistance, individual assistance, logistics, planning/geographic information system, and public assistance.
- Summer of Service members will participate in pre-service training, albeit a shorter version, and serve on teams. NCCC teams will have project sponsors, site supervisors, and address a community-identified priority.
- Traditional Corps teams serve with local and national organizations to complete hands-on projects in a designated region of the country. Members help build homes for families in need, repair hiking trails in national and state forests, assist communities with disaster preparedness, recovery, and more.
- Forest Corps is a partnership between AmeriCorps NCCC and USDA Forest Service. Forest Corps participants receive training and certification by performing direct, hands-on service in the areas of wildfire risk mitigation, reforestation, environmental conservation, and resource management.

*The CARES Act, passed by Congress in response to the Coronavirus pandemic, increased the upper age limit for participation as an AmeriCorps NCCC Corps Member to 26 years old. Under the CARES Act, Section 3514(d), the upper age limit for AmeriCorps NCCC members is 26. AmeriCorps NCCC applies the upper age limit at the time a member arrives on campus and is activated as a member. That means individuals must be on campus and activated as members for at least one day before turning 27. The 26-year upper age limit will remain in effect until further notice.
