AmeriCorps Member Benefits

Segal AmeriCorps Education Award

After completing your term of service and enrolling in the National Service Trust, AmeriCorps members are eligible to receive the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award. The award can be used to repay qualified student loans and to pay current educational expenses at eligible institutions of higher education and training programs.

Receive a modest living allowance to cover basic expenses during your service term.

Members who complete a term of service receive the Segal Education Award. You can earn up to two full awards with multiple service terms.

Loan Deferment and Interest Forbearance

Members are eligible for forbearance on most federally guaranteed student loans. Interest payments that accrue during service may be eligible for repayment by AmeriCorps.

Childcare Benefit

Individuals who have children under the age of 13 may qualify for the AmeriCorps childcare benefit. The approved benefit rates will be the childcare provider’s rates or the maximum allowable rate in the state where childcare is provided (whichever is the lesser of the two).
