AmeriCorps Member Benefits
Segal AmeriCorps Education Award
After completing your term of service and enrolling in the National Service Trust, AmeriCorps members are eligible to receive the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award. The award can be used to repay qualified student loans and to pay current educational expenses at eligible institutions of higher education and training programs.


Living Allowance
Receive a modest living allowance to cover basic expenses during your service term.

Money for College and Trade School
Members who complete a term of service receive the Segal Education Award. You can earn up to two full awards with multiple service terms.

Loan Deferment and Interest Forbearance
Members are eligible for forbearance on most federally guaranteed student loans. Interest payments that accrue during service may be eligible for repayment by AmeriCorps.

Professional Development
Gain skills employers value, including leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving, to kick start careers. AmeriCorps' Employers of National Service program connects alumni with hundreds of employers in the private, public, and nonprofit sectors.

Alumni Network
AmeriCorps alumni receive access to benefits and resources. Connect with the more than 1.3 million AmeriCorps network and learn how to leverage the Segal Education Award and other benefits, such as Schools of National Service and Employers of National Service.

Childcare Benefit
Individuals who have children under the age of 13 may qualify for the AmeriCorps childcare benefit. The approved benefit rates will be the childcare provider’s rates or the maximum allowable rate in the state where childcare is provided (whichever is the lesser of the two).

Most programs offer supplemental health insurance. Volunteers can also receive supplemental accident and liability insurance while in service.
