On May 28, 2021, President Biden proposed a strong budget for national service and volunteerism, providing AmeriCorps with $1.2 billion, an increase of $89.2 million over the current year enacted budget, to support AmeriCorps and its state and local partners in engaging Americans of all backgrounds in results-driven service to improve lives, strengthen communities, and foster civic engagement.

Volunteerism and work-based learning can provide critical preparation for individuals as they transition from school to the workplace. The Department of Labor Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP) and AmeriCorps created guidance and resources to promote national service as an option for all Americans, including those with disabilities.
