Acting Chief Modernization Officer

Carol Wiater was named AmeriCorps’ Acting Chief Modernization Officer in December 2024.

Wiater joined AmeriCorps in 2019, with more than a decade of experience in national service, program development, and systems building. She first saw the AmeriCorps “A” while on a service trip to New Orleans, Louisiana to help rebuild homes damaged by Hurricane Katrina. Waiter says serving alongside the community and an AmeriCorps NCCC team shaped the next years of her life, and she went on to serve two terms of service as a Team Leader with AmeriCorps NCCC.

Wiater brings a range of experience and perspective to her role. She previously administered an AmeriCorps state program focused on healthy futures and education, served as a commissioner with Serve Colorado, and worked at a large school district where she managed community partnerships and a partner database. Wiater has held positions in the Office of Regional Operations and was a part of the Modernization Office since its inception in 2022.

In September 2024, Wiater became the Modernization Office’s first deputy director, and she was responsible for leading office operations, coordinating business resources across projects, promoting change management, and leading office transitions.

In her free time, Wiater enjoys exploring the outdoors, baking, and making art.
