Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer

Anthony Hynes was named AmeriCorps’ Acting Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer in April 2024. Hynes first joined AmeriCorps in January 2023 as the Civil Rights Director in the Civil Rights and Employment Branch of the Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility.

Before joining AmeriCorps, Hynes served as a civil rights lead advisor to several regions of the Federal Emergency Management Agency and on one of the agency’s incident management assessment teams. In those roles, Hynes worked on applying equity implementation strategies to programmatic response, at both the headquarters and regional levels, by advising senior leadership on strategy and the operationalization of equity.

Hynes also previously led the equity and civil rights response on multiple federally declared disasters. As an advisor, he supported emergency responses in several states and Puerto Rico.

Hynes is an alumnus of Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana where he earned his bachelor’s degree in communications. He also earned his juris doctor from the Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas.
