Andrea Grill
Acting General Counsel
Andrea Grill is AmeriCorps’ acting general counsel. She joined AmeriCorps’ Office of General Counsel in August 2002. For 18 years, she served as an associate general counsel, and in October 2020, she began as acting deputy general counsel and then deputy general counsel. Grill is proud to have devoted much of her legal career to supporting AmeriCorps and its mission. She has served as legal counsel on mission-critical matters, litigation, national service programs, agency offices and functions, and as its lead ethics official.
Before she came to AmeriCorps, from 2000 to 2002, Andrea was a principal in the law firm of Klimaski & Grill, PC, litigating plaintiff-side employment discrimination and police misconduct cases. From 1995 to 2000, Grill served as a senior attorney at the US Department of Justice’s Office of Justice Programs in their Office for Civil Rights and Office of General Counsel. From 1991 to 1995, she served at the US Department of Labor as an attorney in the Civil Rights Division, Office of the Solicitor, handling class-action employment discrimination cases against federal contractors. Grill served as a judicial law clerk in Washington, DC, for the Honorable Ricardo M. Urbina (Ret.) from 1989 to 1991. She received her bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Boston University, and her juris doctor from Georgetown University Law Center. She is a member of the bars of Washington, DC, Maryland, and Pennsylvania.
