National Service Agency CEO Meets with Cheyenne Mayor Richard Kaysen and Holds Community Dialogue on Service
Obama Administration Official to Serve Alongside AmeriCorps Members at Curt Gowdy State Park
Washington, DC—Patrick A. Corvington, CEO of the Corporation for National and Community Service, will meet with Cheyenne, WY Mayor Richard Kaysento discuss ways that service is addressing local challenges.
Corvington will also host a community dialogue with 40 area nonprofit leaders to discuss the agency's five-year strategic plan and new vision to drive greater impact toward solving national and local problems – from unemployment to student achievement.
More than 129,400 Wyoming residents volunteer, and contribute $320.2 million worth of service to the local economy to address local needs. This year, the Corporation will commit over $3.4 million to support 31 national service projects led by the agency's programs – AmeriCorps, Senior Corps and Learn and Serve America. These projects engage more than 2,500 volunteers in service that strengthen communities and foster civic engagement.
Corvington will conclude his visit by participating in a service project at Curt Gowdy State Park, building a new bike trail alongside AmeriCorps members and volunteers from the University of Wyoming's freshmen class. As a result of AmeriCorps' work, the park's bike trail has received the prestigious designation of “Epic” from the International Mountain Biking Association.
