National Service Agency CEO Encourages Children to Serve

Administration Official Joins Education Secretary, Members of Congress at Event
to Curb Childhood Obesity and Summer Reading Loss

Washington, D.C. – Patrick A. Corvington, CEO of the Corporation for National and Community Service, will deliver remarks at the Let's Read! Let's Move! summer enrichment event at the U.S. Department of Education's Lyndon Baines Johnson headquarters building on Tuesday, August 3 at 12 p.m. Corvington will join Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton, Congressman James P. Moran, and National Endowment for the Arts CEO Rocco Landesman to read books and participate in activities with more than 60 children from DC public schools in an effort to curb summer reading loss and childhood obesity.

One of Corvington's top priorities as head of the nation's service programs is to expand opportunities for Americans to serve and solve national challenges. This summer, the agency launched United We Serve:Let's Read. Let's Move. to engage Americans in efforts to combat childhood obesity by increasing physical activity and access to healthy, affordable foods, as well as curbing summer reading loss among children and youth. The initiative is an Administration-wide effort led by the Corporation in collaboration with First Lady Michelle Obama and five other federal agencies.
